Film Room: Throwing Hammers in the Wind – Part 1: Throwing Mechanics
Join analyst Joe Marmerstein in the Ultiworld Film Room for this two-part series teaching advanced tips for improving your hammer throws in windy conditions. Part One focuses on throwing mechanics – how to adjust your release angle, aim, and power depending on what direction the wind is blowing. Part Two offers tips for increasing the effectiveness of your hammers in-game including when to use the hammer, how to optimize your receivers’ chances of catching the throw, and knowing when to use the threat of the hammer to open up another option.

European Ultimate Federation To Decide On Youth Tournaments In April
The European Ultimate Federation has announced that their two major European youth tournaments are still in consideration for 2021. The EYUC U20 is planned to take place in Malmö, Sweden on July 17-24 and the EYUC U17 tournament is scheduled for August 7-14 in Hollabrunn, Austria. The EUF will make a statement on April 1 to declare whether they will continue planning the events or if they will be canceled or postponed.
Each EUF nation is allowed to send a team in the mixed, open, and women’s divisions in both age categories. However, in the mixed U20 category, the EUF is also allowing national federations from outside the EUF to participate. (more…)

USA Ultimate Postpones Beach Championships, Nears Update on Return to Play Guidelines

The decision was reached after “continued dialogue with [USAU’s] medical advisory committee, beach working group and local event organizers,” as well as feedback from participating players and teams. While the event has yet to be rescheduled, the organization is now exploring “a possible fall date” while also weighing potential calendar conflicts with both the postponed college series and club play typically held into the fall. Australia Drops from WUGC

Photo: Jolie Lang — UltiPhotos.com Australia has withdrawn all three of its teams from the 2021 World Ultimate and Guts Championships, citing health and safety concerns. Australia becomes the first country that had teams in the semifinals of WUGC 2016 — the mixed team lost to the USA in the final, the men’s team fell to Japan — to drop from the event. (more…)

USA Ultimate Set to Commit to Attending WUGC
2016 USA Mixed National Team. Photo: Jolie Lang — UltiPhotos.com USA Ultimate plans to commit to attending the 2021 World Ultimate and Guts Championships if it takes place, the organization confirmed to Ultiworld.
Today is the deadline for national federations to confirm their plans for this summer’s event. Outstanding payments — including an additional €165 ($202) per player — are due before January 15th, and WFDF will make a decision about whether or not to move forward with the event on January 16th. Changing conditions with the COVID-19 pandemic or vaccination timeline could still cause the event to be cancelled later this year.

Ireland Pulls Out of World Ultimate and Guts Championships

Photo by Quentin Dupre La Tour The Irish Flying Disc Association has announced that Ireland will not be attending the World Ultimate and Guts Championships in July of this year. The World Flying Disc Federation asked teams to commit financially to attend the tournament in the coming weeks, but the Irish federation decided that “due to the current situation surrounding COVID-19, it would be to the detriment of the players’ and coaches’ health and safety to attend.” (more…)

New Zealand Pulls Out of 2021 WFDF Events

Currently, WFDF still has the World Ultimate and Guts Championships, the World Under-24 World Championships, and the World Championships of Beach Ultimate slated for the year. (more…)
